MEET THE CLUB
Each month we will introduce one of our club members

Meet Laura
How long have you been taking photos?
Since I was at university where I spent many happy hours spent in the darkroom developing black and white film. About 25 years ago

What was your first camera?
A 110 film compact camera, I don’t remember the make!
The first camera I bought myself was a Canon EOS 300
What do you like to take photos of?
Landscapes, flowers and architecture mainly, but my dog fills the camera reel on my phone! I enjoy dabbling in creative work in Photoshop too.
Where are your favourite places to take photographs?
The Peak District, any woodlands (there’s some great ones in the local area) and my garden
What equipment do you use currently?
A Canon EOS 6D and an assortment of Lensbaby lenses
What is your favourite lens and why?
My Lensbaby velvet rarely leaves my camera at the moment, I love the soft glow it creates for flower and woodland photography
How long have you been a club member?
12 years
What do you like about being a member of the club?
It gives me motivation to stretch my abilities as a photographer, try new things, and be part of a community. Being around people who challenge and inspire me to create better pictures
Which photographers inspire you?
Ansel Adams, Joe Cornish, Nigel Danson, Brad Carr, Elizabeth Gadd, Polina Plotnikova
What is your proudest photography moment ?
Getting a picture published in Outdoor Photography magazine
Also watching the sun rise above a cloud inversion in the Hope Valley - I always wanted to see it, but never thought I’d be lucky enough. Also shooting the aurora in the UK in 2024 - not my best photographs ever, but an amazing experience.

Mam Tor Sunrise
What photo still eludes you?
I’d love to shoot in the Peak District in wintry conditions, but we don’t get them very often when I’m free to go out
Have you ever had any photography disasters?
Nothing major, but I have left home without a memory card on at least a couple of occasions
What are your favourite images you have taken?
It always changes! The great Ansel Adams once said “my favourite photograph is the one I’ll take tomorrow” and I definitely subscribe to that viewpoint. The ones here are some current favourites
